Wonderfully cute wooden buildings, a magnificent mountain setting. The city has been called 'the rainiest city in Europe' with an average rainfall in a year of 250 days! So bring an umbrella. Although it wasn't raining when we were there in October 2012.
We landed in Bergen Airport, Flesland and took the Flybussen coach departing just outside the airport. It took around 35 mins to get to the city centre of Bergen. It cost 100 kr one way or 160 kr return ticket valid for a month.
Norway is very expensive country so get ready and take loads of Norwegian crowns while £1 = 8.5 kr.
The Flybussen from the airport to the city centre will stop just outside Bryggen. |
Today Bryggen houses serves souvenir shops, artists studios, small boutiques, restaurants and pubs. |
Stroll along the old narrow alleyways to take a closer look at the wooden architecture. Overhanging balconies make the place even darker and more mysterious. |

Wandering around Bergen on foot is the best way to see the city. |
In just 5 minutes by funicular, 320 meters above the sea you can enjoy this view over Bergen. |
You will receive a map of Mount Floyen along with your ticket at the desk if you decide to walk down or explore more of the hill. Don't leave Bergen until you have visited the Mount Floyen! |
Trail down Mount Floyen and may meet on your way numbers of trolls. |
The are very friendly and if you decide to own one like this... |
... just pop in to one of the shops. |
While walking down specially during the autumn months can give a great opportunity of taking a really nice and colourful picture! |
Hiking down you must be aware of Powder Witch! |
The famous Fish Market. |
Prices are very high in the fish market. |
You can get pretty good idea of what the local people eat. |
Colourful Bergen Park. |
